Overview

Postcard with a picture of a soldier kneeling with his rifle and a young woman looking from a cottage over his shoulder. In the top left-hand corner is a verse in blue print with a sentiment also in blue ink beneath the picture. On the back is the standard postcard format printing in sepia tones and a handwritten letter in black ink.

Historical information

Part of an extensive collection of postcards received by Vera VERGE from her sweetheart Private Edward Charles MOUCHEMORE 6351 who served with the 28th Battalion during the First World War. They met in Albany while attending the same school. Edward was killed in action at Bullecourt, France on 3 October 1918 at the age of 22. The collection was kept by Vera throughout her life and donated to the Princess Royal Fortress by a family member in 2019
