WEAVING, BEDSPREAD
This bedspread, was part of a set of home linen made from scratch by an Italian family from Umbria who migrated to WA in 1949. Flax was grown on the family property, spun and woven into a bedspread, 2 sheets and hand towels.
This natural white bedspread, woven in the home, has 5 strips joined by hand and machine stitch to give bed width and one extra strip added across the width to make a final length. At one lower corner is a floral cutwork motif. Another floral cutwork motif is off centre. A 30 mm band of needle weaving runs across the width section and up the sides,
80 mm wide and 700 mm up the sides.
