GENERAL EMBROIDERY, WAISTCOAT

Overview

Colourful hand embroidered dark blue waistcoat was bought by the donor as part of a women’s community project in Bangladesh, empowering women and helping them to become self-sufficient.

The embroidery, silk thread on cotton fabric, contains a lot of running stitch, traditional Kantha embroidery technique of the region. There are a variety of motifs symbolic to the country – lotus flower, birds, mythological animals stitched in symbolic colours - yellow = power, light and joy: white = purity and unity.

Fully lined with matching cotton fabric.

Georgia Efford was the WA Co-ordinator of the UTHANDO PROJECT. See notes – her biography.
