WEAVING, GENERAL EMB, TOWEL
This linen towel, one of six, was handwoven by the donor’s grandmother in Umbria, Italy, before the family emigrated to Western Australia in 1949. Part of a set of household linen, where the flax was grown on the family property, spun and woven into a bedspread, 2 sheets, embroidered hand towel and five plain hand towels.
At one end is a hand embroidered colourful rooster with the words ‘Bon Giorno” (good morning) and some flowers.
Underneath are three rows of drawn thread embroidery, hand stitched. The handmade macrame fringe at each end is disintegrating.
