Intricate and beautiful hand embroidered reticella needlelace edging.
This insertion for a ladies’ gown in mid 19th C.
Worked on linen fabric, the edges in pulled fabric four-sided stitch. Centre, threads are withdrawn, certain remaining threads woven together, other threads laid diagonally and whipped or buttonhole stitches to create lacey pattern.
