LACE, TAPE, COLLAR

A silk tape lace collar with exquisitely worked needlelace fillings.

Three bands in the design. Neck edge has scrolling loops filled with spider webs: second band has trefoil leaf shapes filled with buttonhole stitches and these are connected with buttonhole bars/brides and third band alternating motifs of trefoil shapes with tiny woven leaves and circles with intricately and beautifully woven elements creating a scalloped edge.

Because of the age of the collar, the silk fibres are weak. Several breakages at the neck edge were mended with DMC stranded cotton thread to match the colour.
