BRODERIE ANGLAISE, MAT
Overview
Made by the donor's maternal grandmother in Poland in late 19th century, this table centre is unusual in that it is covered with broderie anglaise embroidery. As well there are other elements of whitework spider webs, eyelets and satin stitch This oval mat has three different floral designs, a ladder like band in the centre and a broderie anglaise edging in buttonhole stitch. The centres of the 4 larger flowers have been cut out and filled with spider webs.
