TAMBOUR, SHAWL
A very large dainty lady’s shawl, silk tambour embroidery on cotton net circa mid 19th century, possibly made in France. Large shawls of every type were an integral part of women’s fashion from early 19th to early 20th century. This one covered the wide ladies’ crinoline dresses of the period.
Design - scrolling abstract leaves and sprays of daisy flowers around the perimeter and having a scalloped edge.
