TAMBOUR, FLOUNCE
Tambour work on machine made net. Machine made 3 twist cotton net and 2/3 ply cotton thread for tambour work.
Hand embroidery over the top in the large flower centres.
Beautiful design probably Brussels classic. The net is very strong with few breaks in the construction. It has been strengthened by using entredeux. (where?)
First machine made net was in 1790s. Queen Elizabeth I was offered machine made net stockings but she refused to promote this as would put hand knitters out of business. By 1810 nice net was made by machine.
