STAMPED LINEN, DUCHESS SET

Overview

Stamped linen designs for the those stitching at home were popular in the first half of the 20th century.

This type of decorative embroidery was often called 'fancywork'.

The 3 pieces are labelled ‘Vanity Set’, more commonly called a Duchess set, is Design 1611 Hibiscus Sprays, by the Myart Needlework Co. in Sydney who produced a range of fine linen stamped items.

The mats have scalloped edges with machine punched holes around the perimeter for a crochet edge.

Instruction leaflet has a photo of the finished set, and provides details of stitches to be used, corresponding colours in stranded cotton Peri-Lustre threads, and scalloped crochet edging in Pearl-ecru Size 12.

A paper label stitched in one corner states; “PANDORA Pure Linen, by Myart USE PERI-LUSTA THREADS”
