GENERAL EMBROIDERY, NEEDLE CASE
The design on the front of this book-like needlecase was designed as a sampler to show one type of Wessex stitchery on evenweave fabric. The geometric design consists of 18 flowers in three shades 'pink, burgundy and maroon ' based on Margaret Stitch on page 41 of Wessex Stitchery by Gay Eaton, with a border of couched maroon thread. Pink satin ribbon tied to close the needle case.
The needlecase is well constructed, using board and wadding between the top and floral cotton lining.
There are two other Wessex Stitch needlecases in the Collection. 2005.54 and 2005.55 showing different stitches. This needlecase had obviously been used by Jean.
