WWI era patriotic bone china cup and saucer - 1914
1914WWI era patriotic white bone china cup and saucer with gilt edging.
The cup has a central image of a Union Jack flag in a vertically orientated oval shape above which is the English lion in yellow with a red base and below the date '1914' in black.
Either side are the flags of the Allies - Belgium, Russia, France and Japan - with their poles crossing behind the Union Jack..Below the flags are two shields in yellow with red and blue accents. On the left, the text on the shield reads 'The Triple Entente' and on the right 'The Allied Forces'.
Underneath all of this is a yellow scroll containing the words 'For Freedoms Cause' written in black text. The scroll has a couple of sprigs of red and blue decorative foliage below.
There is no maker's name on the base, but there is a registration number.
The saucer has raised edges and an indentation for the cup to sit in. There are no marks on the reverse.
This cup and saucer set is one of a number of patriotic items in the collection produced during World War One to bolster morale on the home front.
