Overview

WWI era patriotic white bone china tankard with a flat base, inwardly tapering sides and a flat-topped handle.
A British soldier in uniform holding a rifle with attached bayonet is depicted between the French and British flags. Above the image are the words 'Comrades in arms' 'For freedom and right' and below 'Hands off' written in black text.
On the other side are three more flags of the Allies - Serbia, Belgium and Japan. The slogan 'Down with tyrants' appears below the flags in black text.
The maker's mark appears on the base - a crown below which are the words 'English China, G P, L' - indicating it was made by George Procter & Co. of Longton.

Historical information

This tankard is one of a number of patriotic items in the collection produced during World War One to bolster morale on the home front.
