Pair of WWI era patriotic fold-out paper honeycomb balls
c. 1915 - 1920Pair of World War One era patriotic fold-out paper honeycomb balls in red, white and blue (the colours of the Empire).
When closed, the two rectangular cardboard sides, which are joined at the top, lay flat with the folded paper balls between them. They are decorated with horizontal red, white and blue stripes.
Each side has a thin piece of timber attached along its inner length, extending well below the card. These are used to twist the balls open.
Dimensions shown are when the items are fully open.
During World War One, people owned patriotic items such as this to show their support. It may have been made and sold to raise funds for the troops.
