'Société Française de Secours aux Blessés Militaires' (S.S.B.M.) stamp booklet cover
c. 1913'Société Française de Secours aux Blessés Militaires' (S.S.B.M.) stamp booklet cover from just prior to World War One.
The booklet would originally have contained 4 sheets of 10 stamps. It is made from buff coloured card with mostly blue text and illustrations.
On the left hand side is the logo of the S.S.B.M. featuring a white flag with a red cross in front of the French flag, all inside a shield. Underneath is the address of the Society.
The main illustration is of the Place de la Concorde (a public square or plaza in Paris) and shows buildings in the background, and cars, horse drawn vehicles and pedestrians in the foreground. There is a fountain and a tall obelisk.
On the lower right is a description of the contents - 40 stamps of the 'Monuments of Paris' and the price.
The stamps are not present so the central area is blank, while the reverse has some writing in pencil but is also otherwise blank.
The S.S.B.M. translates to 'French Society for the aid of the military wounded' and was the precursor to the French Red Cross.
Presumably, some of the proceeds from the sale of the stamps went to support the S.S.B.M. and the empty folder could then be used as a greeting card.
