WWI patriotic brooch made from horse hair
c. 1915 - 1920World War One era patriotic brooch made from horse hair, dyed red, white and blue to represent the colours of the Empire.
It has three plaited circles of hair at the top secured with a bow of red, white and blue ribbon, below which the hair is straight in a brushlike formation.
There is a safety pin on the reverse for attachment.
During World War One, people wore patriotic items such as this to show their support. It may have been made and sold to raise funds for the troops.
