Peace Cup celebrating the end of the Great War
c. 1919White bone china cup produced to celebrate the signing of the Armistice and peace after the Great War.
It has a colourful illustration featuring a central white and green stippled world globe with a white dove at the top and a gold central band with the word 'Peace' in black text on a white background.
On either side of the globe are flags - the United States and France on the left and Italy and Great Britain on the right. The date '1914' appears to the left of the central image and '1918' to the right.
Under the globe is a green laurel wreath over which is a scroll with the date 'Nov. 11th 1918' written on it. The words 'The Great World War' are written at the bottom in black text.
There are no maker's marks, but the Roman numerals 'XII' are painted in black.
This cup is one of a number of commemorative items produced to celebrate the end of World War One in the collection. A larger mug with the same central design but slightly different dates and text is also in the collection.
