Photograph of a large limestone house. White painted quoins, decorative finial and barge board to gable and posts and railing to front and side verandahs. Central path between eucalypts and lawns leading to steps.

Historical information

Home of the Gardner family in the 950s. Originally named 'Hawthorne'. Built c.1890 by George Edwards. Home constructed from swamp stone (diatomaceous earth) with shell fossils embedded in it. Several homes in the area constructed from same material - could have come from Lake Claremont. House was built on large block and stone sheds backed onto Shenton Road, Claremont.
