Contextual information

College Street, along with other streets that point to a university connection - Senate, Chancellor and Warden Streets were all part of original University of Western Australia endowment land. In 1928 the UWA Senate voted to sell off 111 blocks in what was known as the Showgrounds Estate to raise money to appoint a Professor of Mathematics. By the end of the year, 98 blocks had been sold and £14,000 raised - enough to appoint a part time mathematics lecturer.
