'Put the Yanks in Berlin' dexterity puzzle
c. 1940Handheld, boxed dexterity puzzle comprising a colourful cardboard cover with illustrations of planes of the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) and an airman wearing uniform and sidecap saying 'Put the Yanks in Berlin' in a red speech bubble. The planes are identifiable as belonging to the USAAC by the roundels on their wings which are blue circles surrounding a white, five-pointed star with a red circular centre.
On the edges of the cover are graphic illustrations of a variety of war motifs - tanks, planes, ships, observation balloons, artillery and military vehicles.
On the underside of the lid are the instructions for the game.
The bottom of the box shows a graphical depiction of a map of Europe with Berlin in the centre. There are a series of nine holes - four in the centre for Berlin and five in surrounding capital cities (London, Paris, Rome, Oslo and Moscow). There are glass marbles in three different colours representing the US Army, USAAC and Royal Air Force (RAF). Warships are depicted in the seas surrounding Europe and an American bomber flies over Berlin.
The object is to get the different coloured marbles into the appropriate holes of the map of Europe, with the US Army occupying Berlin and the USAAF and RAF controlling the areas around it.
This puzzle is missing one white marble.
One of a series of handheld dexterity puzzles in the collection produced in the United States during WWII.
