WWI patriotic dexterity game - 'Put the Allies in Berlin'
c. 1915World War One patriotic dexterity game entitled 'Put the Allies in Berlin'.
It is made from tin with a glazed top. It is circular in shape and has a maze-like pattern with the names of allied countries (England, Japan, Russia, Belgium, France) in two concentric circles to the outside surrounding two inner circles featuring axis countries (Germany, Austria) and the German capital, Berlin, around a central red star. There are two small metal balls - one silver and one gold.
The instructions on the reverse read 'Put the allies in Berlin; the gold shot represents Germany; the silver shot the allies'. The aim of the game is to place the silver ball at the centre, occupying Berlin.
The glass has become cloudy with age, making it difficult to distinguish between the gold and silver balls.
This is one of a number of British made and designed propaganda games released during the early part of WWI to improve morale on the home front.
