WWII era US Navy silver-toned powder compact with winged pilot's badge
c. 1940WWII era Art Deco style sterling silver rectangular powder compact.
It has contrasting vertical and horizontal rose coloured strips of metal depicting ribbon tied onto a parcel.
Attached to the right of the horizontal strip is a miniature metal pilot's brevet for the U.S. Navy. The Naval Aviator Pilot's Wings have a central shield over an anchor and wings to either side.
The underside of the compact is finely ribbed while the vertical edges are all smooth. The word 'Sterling' is impressed into the metal on the front side.
There is a matching silver metal clasp at the front and a long hinge at the back.
Inside the compact is a mirror on the upper side and a cloth lined recess on the lower side with a fitted peach coloured powder puff featuring the name of the maker (Evans) in gold.
The compact has some damage including dents, scratches and general wear.
Powder compacts such as this were sold as souvenirs to the soldiers to give as presents to their wives, mothers and sweethearts.
