WWII era U.S. Army mother of pearl powder compact with enamel badge
c. 1940WWII era square powder compact with rounded corners featuring a decorative mother of pearl background overlaid by a plastic cover.
It has an enamel badge representing the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division unit crest on the lid. The crest is triangular with yellow at the top and blue and red on either side at the bottom.
Mobility, firepower, and speed are represented by the images of a tank tread, the barrel of a cannon, and a bolt of lightning. The tri-colour design is employed to represent the three types of forces—cavalry (yellow), infantry (blue), and artillery (red)—that make up an armoured division.
The edges and front clasp are in a gold-toned metal and there is a long hinge at the back.
Inside the compact is a mirror on the upper side and a cloth lined recess on the lower side with a fitted pink powder puff.
The patent number and maker's name are impressed into the metal surrounds either side of the hinge.
Powder compacts such as this were sold as souvenirs to the soldiers to give as presents to their wives, mothers and sweethearts.
