William Shaw Collecting Firewood

Overview

William Shaw in dark trousers, light coloured shirt and tie, dark braces and dark hat with an armful of firewood collected for a fire to boil a billy at a picnic on the river foreshore at the Bay Road reserve.

Historical information

William Shaw (c.1886-1969), son of Peter Shaw and Sarah Holloway.

Married Edith Jane Marsh (1887-1969) at Perringulup in the Great Southern region of Western Australia on the 26th December 1919.

William, a jeweller by trade, and Edith had four children:

Sarah Olive 'Olive' Shaw (1911-1996)
William Alfred Shaw (1917-1988)
Arthur Edward Shaw (1919-1979)
George James Shaw (1922-1991)

The family lived firstly at 41 Claremont Crescent, then moved to 21 Stirling Road, Claremont in December 1917 into a house being built by Peter Shaw. The house never finished because of the hardships of World War I and then the depression.

Olive Shaw lived in the family home at 21 Stirling Road until December 1984, when she moved to a retirement home in Nedlands.
