Eileen Buckland
c. 1906Photograph of a ten year old Eileen Buckland. Head and shoulders portrait shows a young girl with short, dark hair, wearing a lacy light coloured blouse/dress secured at the neckline with an oval shaped clasp. Around her neck she is wearing a necklace with a round pendant.
Daughter of Thomas and Pheobe Buckland. Family lived in Claremont Avenue in 1902 and then he and his family lived at 1 Queen Street from 1903 - 1933. The house was left to their daughter Eileen Buckland, who lived there until she got ill and went to live with her daughter Elvie Godfrey in 1972 -73. Eileen died 20/2/1975. The house was sold in 1975 and has since been demolished. Donor states 'Eileen had her hair shaved at aged eight because of rheumatic fever. She was bedridden for nine months and had to lean to walk again'.
