Edith Jane Marsh (1887-1969), daughter of Samuel Marsh and Alice Hannah Manton, was born in Augusta, Western Australia.
Her family arrived in South Australia in 1836. Subsequently they came to the Vasse area by sea, and then by coach to Karridale where they owned and worked on the Rose Hill Farm.
Edith and William had four children:
Sarah Olive 'Olive' Shaw (1911-1996)
William Alfred Shaw (1917-1988)
Arthur Edward Shaw (1919-1979)
George James Shaw (1922-1991)
The family lived firstly at 41 Claremont Crescent, then moved to 21 Stirling Road, Claremont in December 1917 into a house being built by William's father (Peter Shaw). The house never finished because of the hardships of World War I and then the depression.
