Overview

Head and shoulders portrait with face in profile of Harriett Tomalin wearing fitted buttoned (and beaded) bodice with leg of mutton sleeves and a bow on each shoulder. High neckline completed with lace jabot and brooch. Her hair is worn in a soft full chignon.

Historical information

Harriett (aka Harriet) Mary Ann Russell (1868-1950), daughter of Thomas Russell and Miriam Ann Longhurst, was born in Notting Hill, London, England during July 1868.

Married William Barry Tomalin (1867-1891) on 17 August 1889 in England and they had one daughter Miriam Florence Tomalin (1890-1972).

After the William died, Harriett married Walter Herbert Dawe (1890-195) in Perth, Western Australia in 1911.

Lived at Giralia Station, Winning Pool for many years.

Owned 37 Victoria Avenue, Claremont from 1925-1950 but records do not show that she ever lived there.

She died 6 November 1950 at her Wattle Avenue, Dalkeith property, aged 82.

A house she owned in Raglan Road, North Perth was sold and the proceeds given to Sister Kate's Childrens Home.
