In 1909 Claremont was one of eight schools in Western Australia reclassified as ‘Central Schools’, later high schools, for the purposes of higher education. This meant that the school could offer Standards VII and VIII. Manual Training was available for boys. The school grounds continued to be a problem in winter and in 1938 it was said that ‘children were developing web feet.’
