PHOTOGRAPH: WHITTAKERS WORKS
Image: The photograph shows the Whittakers buildings facing on to Hay Street. The structure consists of a large shed with a high roof with a verandah at the end on the right. Along the front of the sheds can be clearly read: 'Whittaker Bros. Timber and Hardware Merchants. Estbd. 1894'. Along the side of the building 'Suppliers of All Kinds of Timber and Building Materials'. Planks of timber are stacked at the side of the building, extending along the street. A man stands under the verandah and another man rides towards him in a horse and cart. A later photograph than P85_409, the street lighting, but horses and carts remain the main source of transport.
