PETTICOAT: HALF SLIP, PALE PINK
c. 1955This pale pink nylon half petticoat has an elasticised waist band and a full skirt made up of 3 types of nylon fabric. A soft fabric extends from waist to hip where it is joined to a stiff white fabric. Covering the white fabric are 2 layers of pale pink floral embroidered nylon. A pale pink satin ribbon is threaded through the upper layer of embroidered nylon at hip height and there is a bow of satin ribbon on the left side. One label of side seam says 'Balmoral Collection' and the other, 'Nylon. S.W.' (S.W. is Small Women's).
Such petticoats were worn in the 1950s to increase the fullness of skirts and the petticoats were often starched to increase the full effect.
