MONEY TOKEN DISPENSER: WOODEN, ROUND, WITH COINS

Overview

Money dispensor wooden, black, cylindrical in shape. The base covered with felt. From the base circumference the stand rises with a curve for 45mm, ending in a cylinder of 75mm diameter. This upper cylinder has six recessed circular holes, open on the outside of the cylinder and complete toward the centre. Each of these recesses hold round metal tokens with 1/-, 2/-, 1/6, 9D, 4/1- and 6D stamped on them.
The dispenser has a circle of celluloid nailed to the top centre with the coin denominations burnt into it and each number facing one of the coin stacks. All recesses are full or nearly full of metal tokens.

Historical information

Used in donor's father's barber shop in Rokeby Road c1935-1950. When the barber had finished attending to the customer he would give him a token to the value of the service which the customer would present to the attendant at the cash register and pay the amount required.
