PAINTING: 'OLD TIME SWAGMAN', W. F. STUART

Image: Oil painting showing an old swagman loaded up with all his gear, a billy in his left hand. It stands on a bare earthen road with trees in the background.

This painting was presented to the Senior Citizens' Centre by the painter in 1969. It hung in the dining room until it was donated to the museum together with other paintings by the artist in January 1994.

Signature: Signed 'W.F. Stuart 1913' in lower right corner.

Frame: Gilt frame is made of wood and has ornate moulding.

Reverse: There are two separate pieces of paper pasted on the reverse. One reads "Old Swagman presented to Elderly Citizens Club 1967 W. F. Stuart"; the other, also handwritten in ink, reads as follows "Old Time Swagman presented to Elderly Citizens Centre 5.2.69 by W.F. Stuart".

Historical information

On 16 November 1993 the Subiaco Senior Citizens Centre Board of Management agreed to donate six paintings by W.F. Stuart to the Subiaco Museum as they were interesting from an historical sense. The paintings has previously been donated by the artist to the SSCC in 1969, where they were hung in the dining room.
