Overview

Embroidered on this blazer pocket is the Western Australian baseball insignia in the form of a black swan on a yellow background above two crossed baseball bats and a ball. The words 'Western Australia' are embroidered within an elaborate scroll underneath.

The pocket badge belonged to George Dickinson and below the insignia the years representing his selection in ten Western Australian state teams are embroidered in yellow thread.

Historical information

George Dickinson represented Western Australia in 11 interstate championships and was selected All-Australian four times: Claxton Shield Team Member 1936-1939, 1946-1952; Claxton Shield Outstanding Player 1950; Team Australia Member 1947,1948, 1950, 1952; Team Australia Captain 1947.

Contextual Information

George Dickinson's baseball career spanned nearly 30 years (1936-1955). In 2005 he was inducted into the Australian Baseball Hall of Fame and in 2021 he was an inaugural inductee in the Baseball WA Hall of Fame.

The glove was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the Dickinson family.
