Historical information

Parry Field baseball stadium, in the Perth suburb of Belmont, was completed in 1982 and officially opened in January 1983. The stadium served as the home of baseball in WA until the mid-1990s, when it was demolished. This sign was attached to the back of the main spectator stand, outside the main entrance. Both the stadium and the stand were named in honour of Kevin Parry.

Contextual Information

Kevin Parry was a prominent personality in Western Australian baseball who represented Western Australia 74 times and was an all-Australian player in 1962. He played a significant role in the development of the Parry Field baseball stadium.

The sign was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Doug Corker and Rod Drew.

As an iconic artefact from Baseball WA's first purpose-built baseball stadium, this sign has historic and social significance for baseball in Perth in the 1980s and 1990s. It welcomed players and spectators alike to a sporting arena that honoured a favourite son with his name.
