Overview

Gilt brass, double-sided, cross-shaped medallion struck to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI & Queen Elizabeth, May 12 1937.
The centre of the medallion is circular in shape with depictions of the busts of the King and Queen wearing their crowns, facing left. To the left of the Queen is a thistle and to the right of the King is the English rose. The words 'King George VI & Queen Elizabeth' extend around the lower side of the disc.
On the four arms of the cross are spread the words 'Coronation of their Majesties May 12th 1937' and the maker's name.
On the reverse side, the central circular area has a depiction of the map of Australia with the King's cypher in the middle. Underneath it is a wreath made from Australian wildflowers, leaves and berries. There is a waratah in the centre.The central disc is surrounded by a wreath of leaves. The top and bottom arms of the cross read 'Australian Celebrations', while the two on either side feature gum leaves and gumnuts and wattle sprigs.
There is a loop at the top of the medallion through which a red, white and blue ribbon is threaded - the colours of the Empire. A small brass safety pin is attached to the ribbon.
