'Queensland Gives Her Best' medallion 1914

1914
Overview

Gilt brass, double-sided, circular medallion. On one side, it features the Coat of Arms of Queensland and the words 'Queensland Gives Her Best'. Under the crest is the motto 'Audax et Fidelis' (Bold but Faithful) written on a scroll.
On the other side is a depiction of a warship in the centre of a stylised outline of the map of Australia with the date '1914' underneath.
There is a hole in the top of the medallion through which a metal ring is threaded for attachment.

Historical information

The coat of arms was granted to the Colony of Queensland by Queen Victoria in 1893, making it the oldest state coat of arms in Australia. It symbolizes the Queen's constitutional authority in the state.
The coat of arms also includes other symbols, including a sheaf of wheat, the heads of a bull and a ram, two stalks of sugar cane, gold rising from a pile of quartz, and a Maltese Cross with a crown.
Research has revealed little information about this medallion. Given the image of a warship, perhaps Queensland donated vessles from their own fleet for the larger, national war effort.
