Miniature enamel badge featuring the Cross of Lorrraine
c. 1946Miniature enamel badge featuring the Cross of Lorrraine on a blue background with diagonal red stripes. The cross and border of the badge are in a light metallic colour.
The reverse has a metal pin and catch for fastening. There is no official issue number and no maker's marks.
It came in a grouping with the F.F.A.L. (Forces Aériennes Françaises Libres) winged badges.
Possibly an enamel representation of the ribbon bar for the WWII Commemorative War Cross for the Free French Volunteers.
The medal was created on 4 April 1946 to commemorate the voluntary service rendered by civil and military French and foreigners who engaged in the Free French Forces prior to 1 August 1943, or served Free France effectively, whether in the territories under the National Committee in London or in foreign countries prior to 1 August 1943.
Miniature medals and ribbon bars are often worn on dress uniforms rather than the full sized medals.
