Historical information

This badge was issued to Edith May Chalklen who had three sons serving during World War Two: Albert Sidney (Sid), 43 Infantry Battalion AMF (service numbers S17103, SX35562); Ronald Jack, 2/6th Infantry Battalion (service numbers S38181, SX20345); and William George, Supply Depot Companies/Platoons, (service numbers S42326, SX27299). All of her sons served in Australia before being posted overseas, and all came home safely.
This badge was of great social significance as it was a way of recognising the wartime sacrifice of women and especially mothers.
