Overview

World War One era Demobilised Soldiers' Association member's gilt metal and enamel lapel badge.
It features a soldier advancing with a rifle within an olive wreath, surmounted by a King's crown. The text 'DEMOBILISED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION' is embossed in gold lettering inside a circular blue enamel border, under which is a shield bearing the Australian flag at the bottom.
The reverse has two copper lugs for attachment. The badge issue number '2969' and the maker's name 'Stokes & Sons, Melb' are impressed on the reverse.

Historical information

These badges served to identify men who had successfully returned from active service and were returning to civilian life, allowing them to band together for support and advocacy before the RSL became the primary organisation for all returned personnel.
They also signaled that these men had served and not shirked enlisting.
