GALLOP EDWARD
c. 1874B/W copy of sepia studio portrait of a serious looking young man. His thick hair is neatly parted and combed. He is wearing a white shirt and a three piece suit with small revers and a single button. He is standing in front of some form of pedestal and his right hand is resting on the back of a chair. There is an incongrous assortment of studio 'furniture': a wooden chair with turning and wicker seat, a three-legged table with patterned cloth and vase of flowers and a painted backdrop with classical pillar, archway, frieze and pastoral scene.
Son of James and Elizabeth Gallop. Diagnosed with sunstroke after building fences in the morning of January 15th on De Grey station. He died that afternoon. Original photos were in a family bible on loan to the Museum.
