SILVIA DOLL

Overview

Doll called 'Silvia', white satin doll with wings and wearing skirt. Wings and skirt voile with silver stars. White hair with silver through it.

Gold loop on doll's neck for hanging it up. Tag attached to right arm. Item has a small burnt area on the back of skirt. Right leg on the back is also slightly burnt and stitching is coming loose. Small hole on stomach.

Kay Cooper was born in England and emmigrated to Australia. In the early 1990s Kay started to design and make her own toy bears dolls and was soon selling them first locally then nationally and thanks to the internet internationally. Part of her design is that each bear and doll is an individual creation with a name and short back story. Her toy bears have won awards in Australia and around the world at toy creation competitions.
Kay established her own craft shop in Kelmscott called Cotton Wool Creations which is also sells her bears abd dolls and is also a 'Teddy Bear Hospital' business.
This doll was owned by an unknown person in the COA. It was part of a donation to a charity store where it was found by a HHM volunteer and aquired for the museum collection.

A early example of doll making by Kay Cooper of Kelmscott. Kay Cooper is an multi award winning international bear dolle artist whoes dolls and bears have been sold around the world. Her dolls and bears are hand crafted and have their own name and original backstory. This doll's name is Silvia.
This doll represents the skills and success of a local business woman and internationaly recognised artist. The doll represents the development of Kay's skills over time.
