ARMADALE AQUATIC CENTRE NO DIVING TILE

Overview

A rectangular white glazed ceramic tile with black text on the face side reading: [NO / DIVING]. The reverse has cement attached with text: [MADE IN ITALY]. Top righthand corner is chipped and centre of left side.

Historical information

The 'No Diving' plaque was removed from the Armadale Aquatic Centre before renovations were started in 2017. The Centre was opened in December 1980. The issue of safety was prominently on the mind of the council and council staff who managed the aquatic centre as a public pool can be a very dangerous place. Fortuntaly there were no deaths during the time the Armadale Aquatic Centre operated between 1980 and 2017.

MEDIUM
This collection of items was used at the Armadale Aquatic Centre. The Aquatic centre was opened in December 1980 and was closed in 2017 to make way for the new Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre which was opened in 2019. There items were collected as they represent the important role played in the social life of the local community and what was involved for a local government in running a public pool.
