First Two Strippers used on 'Coompatine' Farm
c. 1906A sepia photograph of two strippers (harvester), each stripper is hitched to three horses and has one driver. Standing alongside one of the strippers are two men who are holding wide wood and metal forks. Further in the background are two men and two young women who are standing next to bags of grain. In the background is a wooden railing and cross rail fence.
Strippers measured 5 foot in width, pulled by 3 horses for each. First strippers were used on 'Coompatine' farm. Called 'headers' in 2004.

On the back of the photograph at the top handwritten in pencil is "FIRST TWO STRIPPERS USED ON COOMPATINE 1906".
On the back of the photograph in the centre faintly written in pencil is "1906 5 Foot strippers taking off the crop".
On the back of the photograph at the bottom handwritten in black texta is "J.C. Haddleton".
All gathering of grain had been by hand until the invention of strippers.
