'Coompatine'
c. 1900A black and white photograph of a house, the roof is timber shingles and there are two brick chimneys. The house has one small window on the right, and a larger glass window on the left side, there is a pagoda in the garden and the fence is wooden posts and there is a wooden gate. There are four men dressed in hats, jackets and long trousers either sitting on the fence or standing against the fence. There is one boy dressed similarly as the men on the right hand side standing against the fence. In front of the men are five groups of people. From the left is a woman sitting in a chair with a young child standing either side of her, the woman is formally dressed in long skirt, long sleeved blouse and hair pulled back in a bun. The next group is a man sitting in a chair with a young girl on his right, and a dog in front of him. Both people are formally dressed. The third group is a man formally dressed in hat, shirt, vest, tie, jacket and long trousers holding a cane.
This man is Sargent McKenna. The next group is of a woman with two older children to her right, a boy and a girl. All are formally dressed, the boy is sitting on the ground. The last group is of a man formally dressed sitting on the ground.
'Coompatine' farm was selected by Thomas Haddleton in 1864, it is 16kms from Katanning on the Oxley Road. In 2003 it was still the home of the Haddleton family and owned by Thomas Gibson Haddleton the second.
