Armidale Aero Club fundraising pin, 1948
1948Circular metal fundraising pin advertising an event being held at the Armidale Aero Club on 4th and 5th December 1948 to mark the opening of the Armidale Aerodrome. The pin has a blue border with the words 'Support the Armidale Aero Club' in white. The central part of the pin is white with red writing and reads '4th and 5th December 1948'.
The reverse has a metal pin which encircles the edge of the badge before ending in a point which can be pushed through clothing for attachment.
The Armidale Aero Club was formed in late November 1945. Without a club aircraft for flight training in those early days, the Newcastle Aero Club visited many country centres including Armidale for flight training. A DH82 Tiger Moth and occasionally a DHC-1 Chipmunk with instructor visited Armidale every Saturday from Tamworth to provide instruction.
