Australian Air League peaked cap with metal badge
Navy blue peaked cap featuring a raised front with piped edges. A silver metal badge of the Australian Air League is attached to the centre of a matching navy blue band. There is a fabric strap below and a contrasting dark red braid above the band.
The badge has the letters 'AAL' in the centre of a circular wreath. At the top there is a scroll containing the motto 'A Vinculo Terrae', meaning “Free from the bonds of the Earth”. There are outstretched wings on either side.
The navy strap is held at the sides by two studs. The peak of the cap is made from stiffened textured vinyl of matching navy blue colour.
The inside of the cap has a brown leather band and buff fabric lining. A diamond shaped piece of navy fabric is in the centre. There is no maker's label, but the size of the cap is written on the left and the name 'B.Caruso' on the right.
B.Caruso may have been the owner and wearer of the peaked cap.
The Australian Air League (AAL) is a not-for-profit, civilian operated aviation youth organisation in Australia.
A comprehensive history of the Australian Air League is attached.
