Metal brooch featuring a plane with an attached map of Australia

c. 1930
Overview

Metal brooch, possibly brass, depicting a single winged aircraft with a roundel on the rear fuselage and a map of Australia attached by a ring to the underside of the plane. The reverse has a brooch pin along the length of the plane which allows the wearer to attach it to clothing. The letters 'REGD' are stamped onto the back of the map of Australia.

Historical information

The same brooch was adapted as a souvenir in 1930 when Amy Johnson flew her plane, JASON, solo from England to Australia, becoming the first woman to do so.
