BHS Prefects 1957

In opening we would like to apologies for the briefness (the prefects usually are to the point) of the notes.

From our point of view 1957 has been most profitable, both socially and financially. In the first field we were afforded much enjoyment, and we trust this is also true for those who attended, by supervising the school dances. After the first somewhat hectic and slightly over crowded Lower School Social, we were obliged to divide this section into first and second year classes. This has proved an effective division especially when regarding the dancing space.

In this field we were greatly aided by Mr. Cullen, who was deputising as Head Master during Mr. Johnson’s long service leave, and our appreciation is extended to him, Miss Smyth and Mr. Davies-Moore, whose presence at the first of our meetings each month, has made a closer cooperation between staff and students possible.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Mrs. Hartzer and Mr. Mac. for providing the music for all our socials. We also sincerely thank all the teachers who, by chaperoning our socials, have made them possible. Special mention must be made of Mr. Reid, who is now residing in some new hostel (for his sake we hope not) at a different school, but who helped us by attending all of these somewhat rowdy events. We wish him the best of luck. Thanks Mr. Reid.

Prefects teas, held at regular intervals during the year proved a source of amusing entertainment, and not everything passed over the table. The variety of after dinner occupations proved particularly successful. Our meetings were just as enjoyable, although the business trend tended to become absorbed by the idle “backchat” and sideline debating. Never-the-less, our motions were generally recorded. As there is little more to say, beyond hoping that our approaches to students breaching school rules have not been too corporal, we will conclude these notes by wishing the Prefects of 1958 as happy, and as successful a year as it has been our pleasureable duty to have experienced.
