Historical information

We began the year with a determined effort to remove our Head Quarters from the lobby to a position of greater convenience. However, the presence of a certain “West Australian” in the former, was too great an attraction for our wavering will powers to overcome.

For a revealing statement of what we have (and haven’t) done, one only needs to consult pages one to three of the minutes book. (Beyond these pages one will find seventy five black sheets left for our successors next year).

Our time has been absorbed by various activities — viz, running socials, canvasing for the ball, and maintaining order and cleanliness in the school grounds. At the beginning of the year, the future looked rosy from the social aspect, but, as of late, attendance and proceeds have sadly deteriorated, leaving us open to bankruptcy charges. However, we cannot continue without mentioning our most successful venture of 1960 — the Barn Dance at which we were represented by a number of “bags” and cow hands, as well as Harold our worthy conglomeration of bones and binder twine.

As is the case in any organisation, we have a hitch which had to be overcome. This hitch is most evident during our meetings, when the differing opinions of males and females lead to the exchanging of many harsh words. However, loyalty to the opposite sex overcomes all fear of individual superiority.

So far we have had three Pre’s teas, two in room 22 and one in the sewing centre. (Most of the clan seemed to prefer the Biol. room - fortunately fish can’t talk). The last tea was a great success, and our sincere thanks go to Jeanette and Carole for their wonderful efforts as chief cook.

Our thanks are extended to all students and teachers who have made our term of office such as enjoyable one, and we wish our worthy (?) successors’ of 1961 the very best in everything.

In closing we wish all junior and leaving candidates luck and we hope that 1961 will prove to be an even greater year at B.H.S. than 1960 has been.
