BSHS Prefects 1964

1964 proved to be a rather lax year for the “score of school slave workers”. The rosters handed out at the beginning of each term were usually used as homework sheets that night and the rest of the term was spent roaming from duty to duty as one felt it necessary. There appeared a general reluctance for “Yard Duty” as both sexes preferred the “Stare Duties” — the chance to survey more interesting prospects ! However, besides the general slackness, the school has continued to operate in its usual style (?*?*?*’.) and still prides itself as having the highest position amongst Bunbury’s schools. (Geographically at least.)

The various “Pre’s Teas” held throughout the year have proved most satisfying (in many ways) and each evening the “tired twenty” have staggered home much stimulated by their adventurous outing.

The coming of the School Ball provided the highlight of the year for us and I must say the Pre’s did a fine job of working as a team to achieve their own — not to mention the few Starring “extras” who contributed much towards the final effects. Just what the results proved to be is not our place to mention, but we were proud to have passed on to us that the ball was a success. Our sincerest thanks are extended to Mr. Rendall and Mrs. Fowler for their invaluable assistance.

We wish every student the best of luck in the coming exams and sincerely hope all will gain their objectives.

Finally — may the prefects of 1965 prove to be an even more conscientious ‘mob’ than we have proved to be.

From the girls’ point of view:

After the last remark from our most revered School Captain, we feel it necessary to defend our honour. To quote, “the lax school workers” — applies only what we regard as the weaker sex. This is effectively demonstrated by the boys’ clever evasion of the two most disliked duties, yard duty and canteen. It is not an uncommon sight to see two lone females roaming around the school yard, fighting desperately to obtain order on a battlefield of strewn paper and debris.

We feel that a grave omission has been made from the prefects’ notes and that is the lack of mention of the meetings (???) conducted when necessary. A deadlock developed over two reasonably uncomplicated matters. One matter concerned two brands of coffee when conflicting ideas arose over the quality. The deciding factor was Norm’s suggestion of a brand of condensed milk coffee bought (naturally enough) from Tom’s. The second split occurred over the shape of the tables to be used at the ball. It’s obvious that the boys wanted a night as "Knights” at the round tables ! ! !
